Created by FRC 9235, Thunderbolts Although officially registered in September, ThunderBolts began operation in May of 2022 at Lightridge High School. ThunderBolts quickly became a staple in the Lightridge community amassing a large following which now amounts to nearly 40 active students. At the ThunderBolts’ first competition at Blacksburg, they won the prestigious Rookie All-Star Award. This achievement is given to new teams who show an exemplary understanding of the spirit of FIRST robotics and have taken initiative in their community through outreach projects. ThunderBolts has a variety of outreach projects including an assistive technology project to aid children with disabilities, a decarbonization project which utilizes sequestration to create a sustainable future, and a mentorship program with Willard Middle School in the Toshiba competition. RoboLoCo has served as a valuable part of the ThunderBolts’ success as they have offered mentorship in the development of the robot. ThunderBolts is an ambitious, determined team aiming to establish itself, looking forward to taking on any challenge it’s faced with.
